Cause shadow puppets at the beach!

Did you know that Nicaragua translates to, “Here united with the water?” Despite this challenging time, Nicaragua has a lively and upbeat culture. With summer getting closer those dreams of lying on the beach get closer to reality!  For your next beach trip, or day at the pool, mix up the national drink of Nicaragua! This delicious cocktail is made with rum and guava juice and is named the Macua Cocktail- which inspired of our collection of Macua bracelets and anklets. Like our Macuas, this signature cocktail goes with the beach, like peanut butter goes with jelly! Recipe below!

Macua Cocktail Recipe:

Serving Size: 1

  • Ice
  • 2 ounces rum
  • 2 ounces guava juice
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup (see NOTE)
  • Orange slice, for garnish

Fill the cocktail shaker with ice, add the rum, guava juice, lemon juice and simple syrup. Shake for 30 seconds and strain into a glass!

Note:

Simple Syrup Recipe

Pour equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan. Remember, the sugar dissolves into the water, so 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water will not equal 2 cups of simple syrup. It’s more like 1 ½ cups simple syrup once dissolved. Adjust your measurements as needed.

Heat the ingredients until dissolved. Stir the simple syrup and place the saucepan over medium heat. By the time the edges start to simmer, the liquid should be completely clear, not cloudy. Immediately remove from the heat source.
